The Houston Astros placed right-hander Ryan Pressly on the 15-day injured list due to a low back strain.
The move was retroactive to Wednesday. In a corresponding move, the Astros recalled right-hander Seth Martinez from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Pressly last pitched on Tuesday, allowing two hits and one run in one inning of Houston’s 3-2 road victory against the Tampa Bay Rays. Pressley has allowed one run in each of his last four outings, raising his ERA to 7.20 for the month of August.
Pressly, 35, is 0-3 with two saves, a 3.86 ERA, 16 walks and 49 strikeouts in 46 2.3 innings over 49 relief appearances this season.
A two-time All-Star (2019, 2021), Pressly in 33-36 with 110 saves and a 3.29 ERA in 613 relief appearances in 12 seasons for the Minnesota Twins (2013-18) and Astros (2018-present).
Martinez, 29, is 3-2 with one save, a 2.92 ERA, 18 walks and 34 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings over 41 relief appearances. In four seasons with Houston, he is 6-6 with two saves, a 3.69 ERA, 54 walks and 120 strikeouts in 134 innings over 108 games.
