The Los Angeles Angels 2024 first round draft pick is once again receiving what appears to be a fast track to the major league level. The Angels have fast-tracked many of their first round picks from previous drafts, including 2023 11th overall pick Nolan Schanuel, and 2022 13th overall pick Zach Neto. The promotion makes many Angels fans wonder when Moore will receive the inevitable big league call up.
In two games at the A-ball level, Moore tallied three extra base hits, one double, one triple, and a deep home run which eventually earned him the AA promotion. With just two games played, Moore proved to be way too good for that level, and it may start a trend with his development that is similar to their past college draft picks.
Schanuel played 22 games in the minor leagues, skipping straight from AA up to the majors. He played through rookie ball, A ball, and AA before receiving a very fast major league promotion. Neto worked through nearly every level on the other hand, but he still managed to receive a big league promotion after just 48 games in the minor leagues. Reid Detmers, Angels first round draft pick in 2020 only appeared in 24 games over the course of his minor league career, compared to his 70 major league appearances now.
With Moore already being promoted to AA, his big league promotion could be very close. Especially when you consider how Schanuel skipped the AAA level entirely, if Moore excels in AA the odds of him seeing AAA at bats are very slim. The second baseman has shown his bat can be special across his time at Tennessee hitting .375 in a national championship run with the Volunteers.
With that being said, Moore’s timeline could very much put him at a possible September callup or even a debut in late August if he proves to be too good for the AA level. Even if his stats aren’t jaw dropping, the Angels may still want to see what their first round pick can do, given he’ll almost certainly be a member of the Opening Day roster in 2025.
