It’s closing day today at Kentucky Downs, and their closing day feature is the Dueling Grounds Oaks which is a race that goes a mile and five-sixteenths. We have an overflow field of 15 fillies entered for this race that will head to the post around 5:52 pm Eastern time.
Kentucky Downs Race 9 – Dueling Grounds Oaks
Favored in today’s race is the 6 Kathynmarissa (7/2 morning line) who has progressed nicely once he started running on the turf. Her numbers have consistently improved as she continued to run on the turf. She was close in the Tepin at Churchill at the end of June and the Saratoga Oaks Invitational in August.
The 5 Siege of Troy (6/1 ML) is a bit of a mystery horse in our programs, but from what I can gather, she has defeated males three races ago at the Curragh in June, which catches my eye because it was an 18-horse field.
We have a few horses that ran last month in the Grade 3 Pucker Up at Ellis Park who are entered today here at Kentucky Downs. The 1 Waves of Mischief (9/2 ML) was not far off the pace and took over to win the race. I imagine a similar trip today.
Kalispera (#2, 12/1 ML) was further back in the Pucker Up and closed well for third. She has a longer stretch here to make a move here, but also keep in mind she does have experience overseas which may be similar to Kentucky Downs’ rolling course.
Willingly closing last time out is the 11 Mo Fox Givin (12/1 ML) who closed to outfinish Kathynmarissa in the Tepin at the end of June but could not hold of Dancing N Dixie (6/1 ML) who draws the 12 post today.
Joe’s pick
This should be a race with a crazy finish. I think Dancing N Dixie will take advantage of the distance and close on the outside to win the closing day feature, outfinishing Siege of Troy, Mo Fox Givin and Kathynmarissa. I am calling this race 12-5-11-6 and my play is $20 to win on the 12. Best of luck everyone!
