Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 4
We head to Horseshoe Indianapolis for today’s regularly scheduled Quills Picks Winners, and today we are taking an earlier race on their Wednesday card. Today’s race is the fourth race, which is an allowance race for fillies and mares going one mile on the main track. The eight fillies and mares will go to the post around 3:43 pm Eastern Time.
The 7 Kara and Colleen (5/2 morning line) is favored in today’s race and she broke her maiden last time out at Horseshoe Indianapolis going get to wire. She took advantage of a track favoring front runners to graduate that day. She can come off the pace as well, but she looks like she does run better when she is forwardly placed.
The 2 El Kown (6/1 ML) came back from a seven-month layoff to break her maiden while not far off the pace. She ran a much better race than her two-year-old races. It’s possible that this filly could bounce, but could the improvement be the result of being away and maturing? We will find out if that race last month could be a new norm for her.
The 4 Most of All (9/2 ML) returns from an almost four month break to running on the turf at Saratoga during Belmont week and did not show much. She does not like the turf from what we can tell, but she goes to Horseshoe Indianapolis today going turf to dirt. She has faced tougher in New York and could be primed to run well here with some class relief here.
The 6 Xena (4/1 ML) got class relief running at Horseshoe Indianapolis after running her first two races at Oaklawn Park. She was close to the pace while running in an off the turf event that was decimated by scratches. She stays on the dirt and looks like she could be looking to show that the six weeks ago at Horseshoe Indy was not a fluke.
The 1 Divinely Bolt (3/1 ML) won a starter allowance going a mile and a sixteenth at Churchill last month. She looks like she is improving but could be trapped on the trail. If she can either get off the rail as they turn for home or gets an opening along the rail, she can be very dangerous in this race.
When I look at this race, there is a distinct possibility that Kara and Colleen will go for the lead and will not be caught. But it take her nine times to break her maiden. She may get company on the front end with Xena. I think El Kown will show that the time off helped her to mature and be more competitive in the races. I think Most of All will have a better result with the class relief here and the turf to dirt angle.
El Kown is my selection in this race here at Horseshoe Indianapolis as she will be taking over in the stretch to win. I’ll call this 2-4-7-1 and my play is $20 to win on the 2. Good luck everyone, and check my bonus article for today, as I will be looking at the mandatory distribution Philly Big 5 (aka pick 5) at Parx where the unofficial horse of Bleacher Brothers Uncle Ernie is entered in the 9th race today.
Check out my show “Also Eligible” on Saturday mornings at 10 am Eastern/7 am Pacific on the Bleacher Brothers’ Facebook, X, Twitch and YouTube accounts as AJ Johnson and I discuss the big races, the latest news in horse racing and much more!
