It’s closing night at Assiniboia Downs and everything must go. All moneys must be distributed before the racing office and other applicable offices lock their doors for the season. We will look at their finale tonight as Europe’s “The Final Countdown” would be playing on their simulcast feed if I oversaw their signal.
We have nine fillies and mares going five and a half furlongs. You will see horses here with some horses with a very short rest period. Some of these connections are getting one more race in for their horses before the season ends tonight. Others may be getting a race before heading elsewhere since racing in Canada starts to become limited with the time of the year.
Assiniboia Downs Race 9
Favored in the finale is the 8 Sebadas (2/1 morning line). She dueled for the lead last week at Assiniboia in an allowance race at a mile and faded badly. She drops to today’s $5,000 claiming tag, but she always fade near the end of races.
The 6 Mary Who (2/1 ML) will be on the lead as well just like she was two weeks ago at Assiniboia Downs. She will be to the inside of the favorite here just like how she was on the inside last time out.
Looking further inside, we see the 3 Bits of Lemon Drop (15/1 ML). She has shown the ability to close here in the past like she did back in August. She has not shown that closing kick the last two races, but in a race where we could have a speed duel, she could show it one more time tonight.
Also, a filly who has shown the ability close is the 7 Daisysadoozy (9/2 ML). She faded last time out two weeks ago at Assiniboia. She rallied while wide in the two races before that. If she shows that ability again tonight she will get her picture taken today.
Joe’s pick
I think we are going to get that speed duel up front. You have some fillies and mares who won’t matter no matter how much the pace melts down. But I will take Daisysadoozy in a slight upset over Bits of Lemon Drop in the 2024 season finale at AsD.
