We head back north of the border after a trip to Louisiana to Assiniboia Downs as we will look at tonight’s fifth race, which is a maiden claiming event for fillies and mares going six furlongs. Post time for this race is set for approximately 10:15 pm Eastern time.
Favored in tonight’s race is the 3 Lola Lee (2/1 morning line) who drops from maiden special weight company for tonight’s race at Assiniboia. She ran her best race in her debut in the beginning of June facing just three-year-olds, just like tonight. She has faded in her last two races which lead to running for a claiming tag for the first time in her career.
The 8 Press On Baby (4/1 ML) was on the inside dueling with the likes of Lola Lee last time out. She probably would be better served rating behind the leaders here, but I think she may end up going to the lead just like last time out.
The 1 No Barb Wire (20/1 ML) went for the lead in her 2024 debut three weeks ago and obviously needed that race. She will probably be better suited to stalk the pace, but she may go again tonight drawing the rail for this race at Assiniboia.
The 9 Woke Joke (3/1 ML) has an interesting story here. She broke her maiden on June 5 at Assiniboia Downs. She faced winners twice after that win. But she is back with maidens tonight because she was subsequently disqualified for a positive test.
Despite that positive test, she has faced tougher on the grounds. Despite being 0 for 15 after that DQ, she could show that occasional closing kick that she has shown and get back to the winner’s circle and break her maiden for the second time in her career.
Usually, I avoid horses like the 9 who was disqualified because of a post-race test. But I cannot deny that she has faced tougher in her last two races facing winners while this investigation occurred. I will take the 9 here to break her maiden once again and call this race 9-1-3-8 and my play is $20 to win on the 9. Good luck everyone and let’s close out the month of July tomorrow with a race back at The Spa!
