After a successful start for the week, we stay at Finger Lakes for today’s race. The track’s season is winding down and today we will look at a race more typical of Finger Lakes on a Tuesday.
Finger Lakes Race 6 – $5000 claiming race
Today’s race is a race for fillies and mares going a mile and 70 yards on the main track. Favored is the 6 Charge Nurse (9/5 morning line). She is third race off of a 14-month layoff. This mare won at an 11k claiming tag last time out. She will be near the pace looking to take over in the stretch.
The 8 Super Slide (10/1 ML) will be on the lead here. She will set the fractions early on that the favorite can stalk. But she has tired in her most recent races, including her two-turn debut at Finger Lakes last time out.
The 1 Raw Power (4/1 ML) was in that same race at Finger Lakes two weeks ago as the 8. She faced a winner who drew off impressively last time out. Depending on the pace today, we will see where she is placed today. If the pace is slow, expect her closer. If they go too fast, expect her towards the back.
The 7 Flurry of Roses (8/1 ML) tired last time out at Finger Lakes in that common race two weeks ago. She has two wins prior to that race at Finger Lakes last month. She will be close to the pace looking to win here.
Joe’s Pick
With racing winding down at Finger Lakes with the season ending next week, you will see some entries here and there where you are suspicious of a claiming horse dropping in class. I am guessing that Charge Nurse is entered here to get one more race over the track before the season ends. But I could be wrong.
I do not know the condition book, but I lean that they put Charge Nurse in this race and roll the dice with her getting claimed. You won’t make much money here today, and once again, I’ll eat chalk with her winning today.
I’m calling this race 6-7-1-8. I’m mixing things up here. I’ll go with my $20 win wager here. I will also go today with a 50-cent superfecta box of 1,6,7,8 which would cost $12 for the 24 combinations. Best of luck everyone and I will see you in the winner’s circle!
