Tuesday 1/30/24 – Parx Race 6
There’s no place like home! There’s no place like home! Yes, you hear that in The Wizard of Oz, but you would hear that from my lips if I chose to livestream, let’s say my Twitch channel, how I put together these articles on days where my home track, Parx Racing, is on the docket.
After what I think is yesterday’s curveball and trip to Turf Paradise, we head back to the 215 and Parx for today’s sixth race, without a livestream, which is a $10,000 claiming race for older fillies and mares going a mile and 70 yards. The track on Monday was sloppy at Parx, and I imagine things should be dried out from the weekend rains that hit my area.
If you like to look at trends, biases or whatever you want to call it, horses ran the best on the outside of the track, including a horse in the 9th race where the horse looked like he started from the quarter pole chute while the rest of the field ran the full race. Keep an eye on the first few races if you believe in this form of handicapping. Thankfully we are looking at race six, so we will know if there are any trends on the Tuesday card by the time you get to wager or watch this race.
The morning line favorite is the 8 Princess Sophie (3/1 morning line) who is second race off a layoff and is running for the first time off of a claim. She got bumped around at the start of the race last month, and she should be ready to fire here after she drops from a $15k claimer. If the track is sloppy, she can handle that, and since she is coming out of the 8 post, She could benefit from the outside trend that I saw in the last five races at Parx on Monday.
Princess Sophie may have company on the front end from the 1 Western Dream (5/1 ML) who was a rare Delta Downs to Parx invader last time out on New Year’s Day. She showed speed at Delta last October and then earlier at Emerald Downs last summer, but Emerald is a very speedy track despite the talent up in the Northwest.
Western Dream might have difficulties getting off the rail because the 2 Bunny Bonus (10/1 ML) might be right there next to her. She’s moving up in class after romping three weeks ago after being slightly off the pace.
The 9 Connelmaura (6/1 ML) had a wide trip last time out and just missed in this same race conditions on New Year’s Day. If the track is playing like it was on Monday, she wins.
With that, I am calling this race 9-8-2-1 and my play is $20 to win on the 9. Good luck everyone and catch you tomorrow for another Quills Picks Winners!
