Thursday 2/22/24 – Gulfstream Park Race 8
We head to Gulfstream Park for today’s Quills Picks Winners for today’s eighth race as seven older fillies and mares will go a one-turn mile on the dirt. Post time for this featured race is approximately 3:39 pm Eastern Time.
The favored horse in this race is the 2 Steel Racer (9/5 ML). This filly got bumped around a bit and was six wide in the stretch sprinting six furlongs last out. She has run well going over seven furlongs at Churchill Downs and the one turn mile races at Gulfstream in December and January. She’s going to be tough to beat here, but she is coming back with a quick 11-day turnaround.
She could have company from the 4 Sense You Left (2/1 ML). She has run on the lead the last few times out but has stalked the leaders in the past. She could be right at the later of Steel Racer, or she might be a few lengths back after stalking at Tampa 18 days ago.
The 6 Rita’s On the Beach (4/1 ML) broke her maiden last time out, and a lot of times, bettors will shy away from a horse facing winners for the first time. She runs at Gulfstream for the first time after pulling away to break her maiden at Tampa Bay Downs. She also ran very well at the one turn mile distance at Churchill Downs on November 3, so don’t count this horse out either.
The 3 Great Analogy (8/1 ML) rallied eight wide in the upper stretch to win at this distance. She might not win this race, but she will be on the board as she could benefit from a potential speed duel.
I think for the most part that this is a chalky race here, and I’m going to go with the 4 Sense You Left passing the 2 Steel Racer when they reach the stretch. I’ll call this 4-2-6-3, and my play is $20 to win on the 4. Good luck everyone, and I’ll see you tomorrow with another Quills Picks Winners.
