Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It may be a holiday, but horse racing continues around the country today. The tracks are limited, and the races are starting early in most places.
Gulfstream opens up their Championship meet today, and they begin with an eight race card. First race is at 11:15 am today, while the race that we will look at today, the finale, will be at 2:40.
We will look at the Wait A While Stakes, as juvenile fillies will go seven and a half furlongs on the turf course. There are 13 fillies entered, but up to 12 will run.
Gulfstream Park Race 8 – Wait A While Stakes
The 2 Civetta (9/5 morning line) is favored here at Gulfstream. She comes in after finishing second in the Matron at Aqueduct. She should be able to handle the additional ground and will benefit from the inside post her with her stalking style.
The 7 Bellavininio (9/2 ML) closed very well last time out in the Our Dear Peg Stakes here at Gulfstream just missing at the wire going a mile. She can be closer to the if she needs to, or she can make that powerful move like she did last month.
The 6 It’s Witchcraft (12/1 ML) finished third in that same race at Gulfstream. She was outfinished to the wire last time out, but it did seem she didn’t have as much energy as the other fillies last time out. She will be closer to the pace than the 7, or so I would think.
The 4 Sail TheSeven Seas (10/1 ML) comes in from Laurel for today’s race after breaking her maiden. She has faced stakes foes on both dirt and turf, so there is some back class here. She shortens up a furlong for this race and should be closing as well.
Joe’s Pick
Civetta will be tough here today, but I would not be surprised if she gets beaten here. Bellavinino will be closing here and will get the win here in the final strides. I’ll call this 7-2-4-6 and my play is $20 to win on the 7.
