Okay, we make like Indispensable and head out of Santa Anita and Southern California for Remington Park. Today is Oklahoma Derby Day, and we have eight entered for today’s finally in Oklahoma City. Post time is for 8:48 pm Eastern time.
Remington Park Race 10 – Oklahoma Derby (Grade 3)
Favored in Remington’s finale is the 6 Most Wanted (5/2 morning line). He is taking the next step in his short three-race career. After debuting at Churchill with a win from off the pace, he was closer to the pace winning twice at Ellis Park. First, he won an allowance race and then last month he won the Ellis Park Derby.
I mentioned the 1 Indispensable (3/1 ML) who scratched from yesterday’s California Crown to run here tonight. After breaking his maiden at Del Mar in July, he closed well to finish second to Muth in the Shared Belief at the beginning of the month. With Muth’s performance yesterday, should we be worried about his performance tonight?
The 2 E J Won the Cup (4/1 ML) did not face much in the St. Louis Derby at FanDuel Racing (the track formerly known as Fairmount Park). He only faced four others last time out and I wonder if he would be on the lead today or not.
The 8 Society Man is the only horse in this field to win a graded stakes race. He won the Grade 3 Matt Winn at Churchill in June. He met up with front running Dragoon Guard in the West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer Park and could not catch the winner that day. A similar run like the Matt Winn should lead him to the winner’s circle.
The 5 Dimatic (9/2 ML) finished second in the West Virginia Derby. He will look to close here like he did at Mountaineer in August and Lone Star in May.
Joe’s pick
We do have some speed in this race where it will set up for the closers. I’ll take Dimatic to win the Oklahoma Derby over Society Man. Let’s call this 5-8-6-1 and my play is $20 to win on the 5. Best of luck everyone!
