After the big Travers Stakes Day card where Fierceness held on to defeat Thorpedo Anna, we stay at Saratoga today. They have a slew of New York-bred stakes races, and today we will look at the Funny Cide Stakes, which is for two-year-olds going six furlongs on the main track. Post time is set for approximately 5:42 pm Eastern time.
Saratoga Race 9 – Funny Cide Stakes
The morning line favorite for today’s race is the 10 Mo Plex (5/2 morning line) who comes into today’s race 2 for 2 lifetime. He won the Grade 3 Sanford last time out going gate to wire going today’s distance of six furlongs. He will be on the outside here today and could be on the outside of a speed duel if that materializes here today.
The 6 Bostonian (6/1 ML) won his debut at Churchill Downs two months ago and returns for this race here today. He was not on the lead but he did get the lead and pulled away late. Could he be the horse who rates here?
The 1 Smilensaycheese (6/1 ML) won his debut on the slop three weeks ago at Saratoga. He lugged out on the turn but still won by almost five lengths. He does have a five furlong workout last week which was probably to work on the lugging out issue he bad, but he could be ready here to potentially upset this field at a price.
The 7 Under Who’s Radar (3/1 ML) was not under the radar in his debut last month at Saratoga. He was three wide on the turn and still won easily. He will be tested today but also that race will help him as the jockey kept him to task according to the program.
This is a tough race because we have limited information on each horse because most have only one or two starts, but I think that Bostonian could be right behind the leaders and taking over in the stretch. I’ll call this 6-10-7-1 and my play is $20 to win on the 6. Best of luck everyone!
