Sunday 4/14 – Aqueduct Race 8 – NY Stallion Stakes
With Santa Anita taking the week off before coming back next week, our Sunday still will be Aqueduct as we will look at their featured race, which is the New York Stallion Stakes. Eight three year old fillies will go six and a half furlongs on the main track here, and the post time is for 5:04 pm Eastern time.
Favored in this race is the 8 Sunday Girl (2/1 morning line) and it looks like she could run the same race she did back in February here. She stalked the pace from an outside post and looks like she can do the same thing again here.
The 6 Sohana will be on the lead here, and she looks like she is a nice candidate to improve returning to a dry racetrack. She finished second to a filly who blew by her in the stretch. That filly won a state bred stakes race two weeks later, so she might be the wise choice here.
The 4 Fast and Frisky (9/2 ML) finished second on a state bred optional claimer at Aqueduct last month going a mile. She returned from a three-month layoff wininng in her return also going a mile. She shortens up for this race, so it will be very interesting to see where she is placed. She was on the lead last time out, but the first quarter was slower than the ones that Sohana was running last out.
If there is a filly that could get the set up here in this race, it could be the 5 Jay’s Love (12/1 ML). She closed strongly after checking up at the start of the race last time out. She goes from maiden claimers to state bred stakes company. There is a big jump in class here, but it is possible that she could surprise here in this race.
I think that Sunday Girl will be at the hip of Sohana and end up drawing off in this race. Jay’s Love will close some but she won’t get by the first two fillies mentioned. I’ll call this 8-6-5-4 and my play is $20 to win on the 8. Good luck everyone!
