Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 12/29 – Aqueduct Race 8

After featuring races from three different tracks, we will go back to focusing on one track and one race this Sunday. Today we will take a look at the eighth race on Aqueduct’s card today. We have 11 horses entered in the Queens County Stakes which will go a mile and an eighth. Though yesterday’s featured race did not run at Oaklawn since they canceled after their first race, Quality Chic was set to run in the Tinsel Stakes. I am treating him as a scratch here since we can say he is on the Oaklawn Park grounds.

Aqueduct Race 8 – Queens County Stakes

Keep an eye on the track condition today. It rained most of the day yesterday and there was supposed to be some additional rain overnight, the rain will stop. The question is how much moisture will be in the track from the first race at 12:10 pm Eastern time and when this race goes to post at 3:35 pm Eastern.

Aqueduct

Favored is the 7 Law Professor (5/2 ML). He comes in after winning two months ago here at Aqueduct. This gelding was near the pace and held on to win last time out. He did win on the slop at Aqueduct in January and he loves the nine-furlong distance, so he will be tough to beat today.

The 11 Tabeguache (5/1 ML) draws the outside gate here today. He will be near the pace again today, but he could be hung wide on the first turn. He was wide last time out going the one-turn mile here at Aqueduct getting his nose down for the win last month.

The 2 Instant Coffee (15/1 ML) was wider than Tabeguache in the stretch and finished third last month in the same race at Aqueduct. He woke up over the last two races and returns to stakes company where he has not faired well in the past. But there is a possibility that he can make that jump forward and continue the upward trend of the last two races.

The 1 Masmak (4/1 ML) draws the rail here and will run the furthest distance in his brief six race career. He won two in a row here at Aqueduct after an unsuccessful start to his career in 2023. He shouldn’t be too far off the pace but should be rolling late.

Joe’s Pick

As much as I like the outside horse Tabeguache today, I like that the 7 Law Professor has three wins in five tries on wet tracks. We will have a wet track today, but to what degree is unknown. I do not think that will matter has he will hold off the field to win here today.

Let’s call this race 7-11-1-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 7. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
