We head to Parx for Tuesday for today’s QPW, and today I chose to go with the ninth race on the card, which is a race for fillies and mares three years old and up going six furlongs on the main track. Post time for this field of nine is set for 4:20 pm Eastern.
Before I get to the race, I do want to let you know that the heat wave does continue here in the Philadelphia area. I will be blunt with you and say that I would not be surprised if this race is cancelled due to the heat. It’s been very hot and humid for most of the last two weeks here with a few more days to come.
They cancelled the races due to the heat on Saturday at Delaware Park, but we did pick a winner. Granted, like I said yesterday, sometimes you take the small wins to get the bigger wins.
Also, I chose this race over the race from my usual spot to get the races, the Daily Racing Form. I’m not bashing them for choosing a stakes race from Assiniboia Downs. Personally, I like the challenge of handicapping a race from a track that not many people know about or I play that often. But I made the executive decision to choose this race at Parx over Assiniboia Downs because the DRF race only has four horses.
Parx Racing Race 9
So with my decision made, we look at the ninth, and the favorite in today’s race is the 1 Confirmed Star (2/1 morning line) who comes into this race after not showing much on the turf last time out. She goes turf to dirt here and shortens from a mile last time out to six furlongs. She has won twice with a second in those three previous races sprinting and it worth of favoritism here.
The 9 True Phenomenon (4/1 ML) draws the outside here and should be in a good position to strike when the time is right here. She won from near the front, and if she doesn’t get the lead, I doubt she will be too far off the pace here.
The 8 Flamingo Way (9/2 ML) is a three-year-old facing older here for the first time, but she did win her first race in her first attempt this year the last time out and from what I have seen so far, it has been go for the lead the each time.
The 2 Sundria (8/1 ML) returns to the races after finishing fourth last August here at Parx. She will probably need this race, but she has proven that she can close from off the pace in a race that may see a closer win today.
I think even with the speed that could be shown here, I think there is a distinct possibility that the 8 Flamingo Way shakes loose here and repeats her effort on May 20 winning an allowance optional claiming race in her 2024 debut. She will be second race off of the layoff, and if she is as game as she appeared to be in her first race this year, she could be the horse to beat here. I just hope that we get a nice price to go with this selection.
I am going to call this race 8-1-9-2, and my play is $20 to win on the 8. Good luck everyone!
Keep an eye out for the races from Saratoga. Summer is officially here on Thursday for the first day of their annual 40-day summer meet. I am sure that I will be handicapping quite a few races from the Spa this summer.
