After winning at Aqueduct yesterday, we stay in New York state, but we go further north today. We head to the Finger Lakes region for today’s QPW. Today, we have New York-bred two-year-olds going five and a half furlongs in the Aspirant Stakes at Finger Lakes Race Track.
Aspirant Stakes
The favorite in this race is the 8 Soontobeking (9/5 morning line). He comes into this race after not being able to hold of Mo Plex in the Funny Side last month over at Saratoga. There has been positive progression in his first four races and should improve even more today.
The 4 Bostonian (5/2 ML) won at first asking at Churchill back in June and then disappeared. He comes back ready to go for Wesley Ward who has some insane training numbers, especially with two-year-olds. This gelding should be on the lead here today.
On the far outside today is the 9 Cast a Coin (12/1 ML). He was sluggish at start but was on the lead last out at Finger Lakes last month. The gelding could not hold off King’s Leap who is also in this race.
The 3 King’s Leap (8/1 ML) closed well to break his maiden in his fourth try overall. That race was here at Finger Lakes last month as he looks to make it two wins in a row. He will need to improve off of that win to get back to the winner’s circle today.
Despite the fact that the morning line favorite does not have a race over the track, I think Soontobeking is the best horse in this field. He should be not far from the pace or actually on the lead here. He will get the job done here at what will probably be a short price.
