Monday 5/20/24 – Parx Race 6
After a trip to New York, we head back home to Parx for today’s Quills Picks Winners, and summer has officially arrived. Temperatures will approach 80 degrees today in the Philly area and the first turf race will probably run the race before today’s QPW, though the Daily Racing Form might still think it is winter as they chose race 6 per usual.
Today, we have $10,000 claimers for fillies and mares going a mile and 70 yards on the main track. Post time for this race is for 2:59 pm Eastern.
The 9/5 morning line favorite is the 5 Abidale who returns to the races after a two-month break here. She’s going to be at or near the lead here. The jockey/trainer combo of Mychal Sanchez and Jamie Ness are probably the best one on the Bensalem grounds.
Abidale has speed on the inside with the 1 Creative Copy (6/1 ML) and the 2 Summary Judgment (5/1 ML). The 1 has a good race/bad race pattern right now while the 2 could have a major bounce after winning last month by over 7 lengths. Abidale might have to sit behind those two if she wants her picture taken.
Unadulterated (#6, 4/1 ML) will probably be right behind the dueling leaders looking to pounce as these distaffers turn for home. If that’s the case, she might have company down the stretch as the 7 Ambitously Placed (5/1 ML) could be just what her name suggests…ambitiously players to win.
The 3 Salagadoola (9/2 ML) drops from 15k claimers and has shown good effort consistently. She should be on the board at the end.
Finally, Heleonortiz (15/1 ML) hasn’t shown much recently. She will probably be outrun again today.
The whole question is how fast these fillies and mares go and where Abidale is. I think she’s going to be right behind the leaders, but I think Unaduterated outfinishes Ambitiously Placed for the win. I’ll call this 6-7-5-3 and my play is $20 to win on the 6. Good luck everyone!
