Wintertime must be upon us because today is Monday, which means we are back to covering the sixth race at Parx today. We have nine horses going six furlongs on the main track.
Parx Race 6 – Claiming 10k
Favored in this claiming race is the 4 Rebel Empire (9/5 ML). He drops from a 15k tag to today’s 10k tag after tiring to finish fourth three weeks ago. He will shorten up half a furlong today. We know he will be up front, but if he’s alone, this could be about who will finish second.
The 3 Swing Oil (6/1 ML) closed well to finish second under the same conditions two weeks ago at Parx. It looks like he is starting to get his form back here after running well in his last two races.
The 5 Neigh Dude (3/1 ML) finished second last time out trying to go for the lead. This gelding appears to want to stalk, and if he can do so today, he will probably be at the hip of the favorite today.
Drawing the outside is the 9 Six Whips (6/1 ML). He jumped up to this level time out at Parx and finished third. He should be stalking as well from his outside post. This gelding should bounce back from that last race.
Joe’s Pick
Lone speed can be a very dangerous thing in horse racing. It is very possible that the favorite Rebel Empire can take advantage of that and never look back. If someone goes for the lead that we do not expect, things may go up in smoke.
I think the favorite will win here, but it may get interesting in the end. I’ll call this 4-9-5-3 and my play is $20 to win on the 4. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
