Quills Picks Winners – Monday 11/18 – Finger Lakes Race 6 & 8

It’s Monday, so that means we head to Finger Lakes for today’s QPW, and today, I thought we would do two races today. For the most part, we go with the race that the Daily Racing Form features for their Race of the Day. That will be race six on their card.

I thought I would also add the final stakes race on the Finger Lakes schedule. The Tin Cup Chalice is a juvenile race and runs as race number eight.

Finger Lakes Race 6 – Maiden Special Weight

We have juvenile fillies going six furlongs in today’s sixth race. Keep an eye and ear on the scratches at the start of the day. The 2 Country Manor (6/1 morning line) is cross entered into the sixth race tomorrow at Finger Lakes as is the 7 Marilyn’s Ny Pride (20/1 ML). I’m sure she will be mentioned briefly in tomorrow’s article as well.

Finger Lakes

Favored in this maiden race is the 5 Kitty of War (3/1 ML). She was second best as a favorite last time out at Finger Lakes 12 days ago. She will be close to the pace here and will look to improve off of that effort.

The 11 Stella Brown (7/2 ML) will have to draw into this race, but with the two cross entries, it is very possible she runs here today. She needed that initial race because she was sluggish and awkward at the start. That race will help her today though she draws the outside today and could have a wide trip on the turn again.

The 6 Practically Summer (4/1 ML) hasn’t shown much at the NYRA tracks (Saratoga and Aqueduct). She ends up with a new owner and trainer with what appears to be a private sale. She will be close to the pace here and should enjoy the class of horses here at Finger Lakes versus NYRA.

Finger Lakes

The 3 Ashtead (12/1 ML) has had all kinds of problems at the start of races. She was breaking slow before the last race last month at Finger Lakes, where she got slammed at the start. If she can get a clean start, she will at least hit the board. Who knows, maybe a longshot winner here?

Joe’s Race 6 Pick

Stella Brown needed that debut. She will be on the outside if she draws in, which I think she will with the cross entries here. I’m hoping she gets ignored at the betting windows but she should turn the tables on Kitty of War today. I’ll call this 11-5-3-6 with a $20 win play on the 11.

Finger Lakes Race 8 – Tin Cup Chalice Stakes

Next is the Tin Cup Chalice Stakes, which was what I thought would be the race of the day. Since this was not the featured race of the day on the DRF website, I decided to add it to the mix.

Favored in the Tin Cup Chalice is the 2 Blamicker (2/1 ML). He was an impressive debut winner three weeks ago at Finger Lakes going gate to wire.  He will have company to the inside with the 1 No Factor (8/1 ML) who went gate to wire to break his maiden last out.

Finger Lakes

The 5 Notfanutin took advantage of a four-way duel up front and drew off to win by double digits under wraps to break his maiden last month at Finger Lakes. He shortens up to today’s six-furlong distance but did show the ability to close at today’s sprint distance.

The 3 Cast a Coin (5/2 ML) bounced back from a poor performance in a stakes race at Finger Lakes by breaking his maiden a month ago. He heads back to stakes company, but a race that will be more friendly today.

The 6 One Morerep (8/1 ML) will get just that today before the track ends its season next week. He took advantage of a very fast pace to draw off and win 12 days ago at Finger Lakes. If that speed duel sets up, he might be closing again today.

Joe’s Race 8 Pick

This race all depends on what happens down the backstretch. If Blamicker is alone on the lead, then he should romp. But I think he is going to be pressured by No Factor on the inside and the 7 Mr. Sugar Daddy (6/1 ML) on the outside. I’ll take Notafanutin to hold off One Morerep at the wire. I’ll call this 5-6-3-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 5.

That’s it for now and hope everyone has a great Monday and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
