Friday 3/8/24 – Oaklawn Race 9
We will stay at Oaklawn for the TGIF edition of Quills Picks Winners as we will look at the ninth race of the day, which is a one-mile race for allowance fillies and mares three years old and up. Post time for the race is at 5:55 pm Eastern.
Before I get to the race, I do want to thank the person who created the new Quills Picks Winners logo. I admit, I was not expecting that when I was sharing my link everywhere on social media, and I do appreciate whoever it was that took the time to make that awesome logo!
Now, to the race. There are ten entrants in today’s race. It appears that the rain will stop around sunrise today, but I am still expecting a wet track today, but I am not sure how wet it will be. Handicap accordingly for today’s race.
The 6 Jubella is the morning line favorite for this race (5/2 odds). She is third race off of the layoff and took advantage of a speed favoring track on January 27. She’s 2 for 4 on wet tracks with one second place finish. If she is not on the lead like she was last time out, she will be close to the pace.
The 1 Feel Like a Girl (3/1 ML) draws the rail for today’s race and has an amazing record of 15 wins in 35 races in her career. She has tactical speed that will help her in this race which is the short stretch that ends at the sixteenth pole. She will have a short stretch to work with, which she will be familiar with like that race at Delta Downs which is an eighth of a mile to their finish line. She was carrying nine more pounds than the winner last time out.
The 9 Into Disco (10/1 ML) is running in her second race off of a long layoff, and the last time she had this situation of a second race off of a layoff like today, she broke her maiden last year at Oaklawn. She will be a couple of lengths behind the leaders, and if we do have a case of déjà vu here, we could see her getting her picture taken.
The 5 Bow Draw (15/1 ML) is a closer her that took advantage of the track bias last time out. She ;pves the mile distance and should like the off going here at a nice price.
I am going to take the Delta Downs shipper Free Like a Girl here in the ninth race, but this looks like it could be a crazy finish with Into Disco, Jubella and Bow Draw. I am calling 1-5-6-9 and my play is $20 to win on the 1. Good luck everyone as we will head back to Tampa Bay Downs for the Saturday Quills Picks Winners.
