Quills Picks Winners – Friday 12/20 – Oaklawn Race 9

We head to Oaklawn for today’s featured race. We have allowance horses going six furlongs on the penultimate race of today’s 10 race card. Post time is set for 5:14 pm Eastern time.

Oaklawn Race 9 – Allowance

Before I get to the horses that I am looking at, I like to let you know when we have cross entered racehorses. In this race, we have two cross entered entries for this afternoon.

Both the 1 Raise Cain (12/1 morning line) and the 8 Osbourne (20/1 ML) are cross entered into Saturday’s eighth race. Both horses have better morning line odds for Saturday’s race which goes one mile. Keep an eye on the scratches and changes when the signal is available to watch or when you see them on DRF, Equibase, or wherever else you get your early scratches and changes.

Favored in today’s race is the 7 Tejano Twist (7/2 ML). He comes in from Churchill where he closed to finish second in an optional claiming race at Churchill Downs. He will be the closer in this race.

Tejano Twist will have some speed in front of him today. The 2 Our Last Chance (10/1 ML) did nothing on the turf at Keeneland in October. He wants the lead, but Prairie Meadows is definitely not Oaklawn.

The 4 Ryvit (4/1 ML) will also go for the lead. He was last seen at the end of the June at Churchill and tired in the Kelly’s Landing. He runs well fresh and has four wins in eight tries at Oaklawn.

Oaklawn

The 5 Kavod (9/2 ML) will stalk the front runners and could take over in the stretch here. He is consistently near the front and stalked and won at Churchill Downs last month.

The 3 Banishing (5/1 ML) will shorten up to today’s six-furlong distance after winning at seven furlongs at Churchill last month. Like the favorite, he will love seeing a potential speed duel up front.

Joe’s Pick

The wild card to this race is Ryvit. He wins on the front end, but he did have that one race at Mahoning Valley last year where he did win from off the pace. But I think he will go for the lead here.

This is going to be about the closers here. Tejano Twist should be flying. The same with Banishing as well. But Kavod will have first chance to take the race over in the stretch. I will take him to win this with Our Last Chance getting fourth here.

I’m calling this race 5-3-7-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 5. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
