Friday 12/15/2023 – Remington Park
Let’s head out to Oklahoma for the penultimate card on the Remington Park thoroughbred season. Initially this was supposed to be the final night of racing at the Oklahoma City oval, but there was a day that was added on Saturday. Either way, the big race for 2-year-olds is the Springboard Mile, which is a race that is part of the road to the Kentucky Derby.
There does appear to be rain in the forecast for Friday, so be prepared for a muddy or sloppy track for the finale of the race card, which will go to post at approximately 11:20 pm ET.
There appears to be a ton of speed here in this race. The 1 Fidget (8/1 morning line), the 3 Gettysburg Address (6/1 ML), the 5 Glengarry (7/2 ML), the 6 Raging Torrent (3/1 ML) the 7 Rhino Runner (20/1 ML) and the favorite #8 Otto the Conqueror (5/2 ML) all appear to have speed and will be flying up front. I think Fidget and Raging Torrent might be behind the leaders, but it wouldn’t surprise me that they are among the horses up front.
If there’s a speed duel up front, the race should set up for the 4 Magic Grant who won the Clever Trevor last time out going 5 wide to win going away going 7 furlongs. The extra furlong should not be an issue for this colt. But I think Otto the Conqueror will be behind those leaders and pounce at the top of the stretch. He’s got experience running on an off track winning last time out at Churchill Downs.
I’ll throw in the 9 Third Street as well here. He did not run well in the Clever Trevor, but did bounce back in an allowance last month at Remington. The 9 might not win, but I think he’s in the top four.
I’ll go 8-4-9-1 in the Springboard Mile, and my play is for a $20 win wager on the 8. Good luck everyone!
