We head to Remington Park for today’s featured race. We have a Road to the Kentucky Derby race here tonight as we have two-year-olds going a mile here in Oklahoma City in the Springboard Mile.
This race is not only the final race on tonight’s card at Remington Park, but it is also the final race of their season. Their closing night card has 12 races, but we will look at the big race on their card tonight.
Remington Park Race 12 – Springboard Mile
The 3 Speed King (7/2 morning line) is favored in the Springboard Mile tonight. He won his debut at Churchill Downs at 22/1 odds. This colt powered to the front early in the six-furlong race and never looked back.
This kind of race makes me look at some sire stats as you know I do from time to time. Speed King is part of Volatile’s first crop, so at least in my opinion, the data size is too small to determine if his pedigree will help him as the races get longer. But with this race at one mile, he could carry his speed all the way around here.
The 11 Mister Omaha (5/1 ML) has an outside post here tonight. He won a state-bred stakes race last time out where he stumbled at the start but drew off impressively. He has won three in a row and also despite the small field last time out, he has defeated larger fields earlier in the Remington meet.
The 9 Dr. Ruben M (6/1 ML) broke his maiden at Santa Anita going this same distance. He will be challenging the favorite on the front end here. He held on last time out to win for the first time in October. But the end was a bit concerning to me.
The 7 Jolly Samurai (4/1 ML) is 3 for 3 lifetime after closing to win the Clever Trevor here at Remington at the end of October. He closed strongly while wide to win the race by about half a length. He progressed nicely as the races grew longer during the Remington Park meet and should love seeing the speed up front here tonight.
Joe’s Pick
I think there will be enough speed in this race tonight that we could see a closer win this. I’ll take Jolly Samurai to do just that here tonight. He will be closing as the two speed horses that I highlighted should be weakening in the stretch after dueling.
I will call this 7-3-11-9, and my play is $20 to win on the 7. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
