We stay in New York again today, and like yesterday, we have a race going six furlongs on the outer turf course here at Aqueduct. Once again, the rail is out 36 feet, which means we have a maximum of 10 horses running today. Also with the unlikely event that this race ends up on the main track, we have four horses entered for “main track only”.
Aqueduct Race 8 – Allowance/Optional Claiming
Favored amongst the turf entrants is the 6 Live High Live Low (3/1 morning line). He comes out of the Carle Place, where he finished second in a race that was not far off the track record. He chased but could not get to the winner in the stretch. Two of the entrants in the Carle Place already won next time out, so that race may end up being a strong key race.
The 7 Fluid Situation (6/1 ML) was not far off the pace in his first race in four months and inched away late to win. He is back for his second race off of the layoff looking to repeat that performance today.
The 8 Boat’s a Rockin (9/2 ML) will be the pacesetter here. He went way too fast last time out at Keeneland three weeks ago and tired. If he goes closer to first quarter in his last win at the Meadowlands at the beginning of October or the win at Colonial in August, he should be a gate to wire winner here today at Aqueduct.
The 10 Gaslight Dancer (6/1 ML) deserves a second look here today. He lost the jockey in the first few steps of the race after stumbling badly. He has the outside post, but he will have the opportunity to close here today, hopefully at a huge price.
Joe’s Pick
We have the potential for a gate to wire winner here as Boat’s a Rockin guaranteed to go for the lead. Possibly the longshot Java Buzz (#2, 20/1 ML) could be there from the inside, but we will see about that. This has the potential to set up nicely for stalkers and closers.
Live High Live Low closed well last time out, but he wasn’t getting a runaway winner that day. Gaslight Dancer will be closing. But I will take the horse who is second race off of the layoff, Fluid Situation to win here today. Let’s call this race 7-10-6-8 and my play is $20 to win on the 7.
