If you follow me on Instagram (@JoeQuills), you saw my Finger Lakes reference with the reel that I posted on there on Sunday afternoon while I was on break from my job. I made a reference to giving you “The Finger” today. Seriously, do you really think I would promote Bleacher Brothers and actually give you the “Daddy Finger”? No! But you got to see my sense of humor as I will look at Finger Lakes, or the track that I call “The Finger” when FanDuel Racing shows racing from the Finger Lakes, I say that they are “giving us The Finger”. That’s what the reference in my video yesterday afternoon.
Monday 7/22 – Finger Lakes Race 6
Now that some of the readers know who know what my sense of humor is like, let’s dive into this race, which will be the sixth race on the Finger Lakes card. We have nine horses who have never won a race going six furlongs with a post time of approximately 3:25 pm Eastern time as we have an interesting mix of first timers and what I like to call “professional maidens”.
Favored in today’s QPW race is the 6 ShawnPatrick (3/1 morning line) who finished second with a little bit of trouble. The jockey Jacqueline Davis lost her whip around the 3/16 pole and the gelding could not keep up with the winner two weeks ago. The experience of getting a race under his belt should help him today as he appears to be a front running or a near the pace horse.
The 4 Sharp Play Boy (7/2 ML) is turning into a professional maiden as he is 0 for 12 lifetime. He has some traffic issues in the stretch as some other horses were weaving around. I think the rally that he had could be misleading as one of the horses who dead heated for the win appeared to have something go wrong in deep stretch. If you think Boom Boom Thunder tired badly in deep stretch, then you might want to play Sharp Play Boy Today at Finger Lakes.
The 1 Dorothys Happiness is a first-time starter with bullet workout on July 3. He drew the rail for his debut and looks like he could run well for a trainer that is winning at a 29% clip at Finger Lakes this season.
The 9 Jersey Gregg (4/1 ML) may be 0 for 12 lifetime here like the 4 horse, but he is going into this race after running on the turf last month at Monmouth Park, There is no turf course at Finger Lakes, and he could improve going turf to dirt here. Toss the last dirt race from back in May at Monmouth as those maiden races are much tougher than the maiden special weight races here at Finger Lakes. Don’t be surprised if he takes to the new surroundings and finds himself not far off the pace and passing the leaders in the stretch.
I think the experience that Shawnpatrick had in his debut last time out will be beneficial with some horses that may never win a race and those that are running today for the first time (#1 Dorothys Happiness, #5 Destined for Glory (8/1 ML). I think as long as the jockey does not lose her whip today, she will guide the favorite to the winner’s circle. I think that the 1 Dorothys Happiness can be tough here on his debut as could be the 9 Jersey Gregg trying Finger Lakes for the first time.
I’m going to call today’s race 6-1-9-4 and my play is $20 to win on the 6. Good luck everyone and I’ll catch you tomorrow with another race.
