Here’s the last 4 fillies that are entered in the Kentucky Oaks. Note that the 15 and 16 are also eligibles and need a filly or two to scratch out to run. As of Tuesday night, it looks like none of the main body of the field have scratched out.
#13 Just F Y I
- Debuted at Saratoga in August. She had a wide trip and closed in the stretch to beat the favorite in the final strides.
- Won on the slop at Aqueduct (Belmont at Aqueduct fall meet) on a very rainy day. She pulled away in the stretch to win by almost four lengths in the one-turn mile.
- Stalked in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and took off at the stop of the stretch. Held on to win by a diminishing half length.
- Made her delayed return in April at Keeneland and just couldn’t catch Leslie’s Rose in the Ashland (G1)
She will be second race off of a layoff in the Kentucky Oaks which was not the plan. She lost training time spiking a fever right before her planned March return. Still dangerous, but a bad post.
#14 Leslie’s Rose (4/1)
- Drew the rail for her debut in November at Aqueduct. Was pressured by the favorite and drew off to win by almost 10 lengths.
- Raced mid-January in a seven-furlong race at Gulfstream. Went for the early lead in this optional claimer. Dueled all the way around and won as the very heavy favorite.
- Finished third in the Davona Dale (G2) at Gulstream. Didn’t get the lead like the first two races. Missed by about two lengths but needed to learn how to take some dirt from in front of her.
- Was behind the leaders down the backstretch in the Ashland (G1). Swung three wide to win by three.
She needed to learn to rate behind the leaders and passed the test in the Ashland. Has the wide post here. Some challenges here.
#15 Our Pretty Woman (AE) (15/1)
- Debuted as a three-year old going two turns at the Fair Grounds. Stalked the pace in an off the turf debut race and charged by the frontrunner.
- Ran next in mid-February in an allowance race and went gete to wire to win. Fractions were not fast and was able to draw off.
- Just missed when facing Tarifa in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2). Fought hard through the length of the stretch.
Needs to draw in, but if she does, look out!
#16 Candied (AE) (20/1)
- Was very wide in her debut in August at Saratoga. Closed to win by almost a length.
- Passed the initial two turn test in the Alcibiades (G1). Was mid-pack down the backstretch and made her move on the final turn with another wide move.
- Just missed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). Made another wide move but couldn’t get by Just F Y I and Candied.
- Made her typical move but didn’t sustain her move in the Ashland (G1) at Keeneland.
Needs two fillies to scratch to run. Would have liked her to come back a little earlier.
This is the last of my thoughts on each filly’s race who have been entered in the Kentucky Oaks. I will have my selection on Thursday night on my Twitch page at twitch.tv/JoeQuills.
