We head to New York for one of the final Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” races today. We will take a look at race 6 on the card, We have juvenile fillies going a mile and a sixteenth on the inner turf course in the Miss Grillo Stakes here at Aqueduct.
The winner of this race gets an all expenses paid entry to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on the first weekend of November.
Belmont at the Big A Race 6 – Miss Grillo Stakes
Favored in today’s race is the 3 Virgin Colada (7/2 ML). She has already races twice at today’s distance during Saratoga’s summer meet. In those two races, she has shown that she can handle the distance and have the patience to make her move when the field turns for home.
Also having two route races in her brief career is the 6 She’s Got Will (10/1 ML). She has stalked in her first two races. She had a wide run at Kentucky Downs last month which may be the reason why she did not close in that race. But not all horses like the undulations like the Kentucky Downs has.
The 10 Lavender Disaster (9/2 ML) was not far from the pace in her debut taking over in deep stretch in her maiden breaker. She will be in an outside gate, so the question is where will be she placed today. But Irad Ortiz will be able to put her in a good position.
The 11 Correto (6/1 ML) won in her debut at Kentucky Downs last month. She was not far off the pace and took over in the stretch to win by over three lengths. She has some nice turf breeding, especially on the dam’s (mother’s side).
Joe’s pick
This should be a very interesting race here with some nice fillies who should be able to run well on the turf. I think Correto and Lavender Disaster will be placed perfectly and Correto will get her nose down over Lavender Disaster with Virgin Colada flying at the finish. Let’s call this 11-10-3-6 and my play is $20 to win on the 11. Best of luck everyone!
