Charlotte came looking for gold in Boca Raton, but the Owls gave the 49ers only coal as FAU gained their fourth sweep of the season in dominant fashion.
To start, Natalie Depaula capped off a 4-0 Owl run to give FAU the 11-5 advantage. The Owls held the six point lead throughout the rest of the first set as Florida Atlantic clinched set one 25-19.
Set two was more dominant than the first for FAU as after a 1-0 lead for the 49ers, the Owls went on a 13 point run capped off by a Maggie Allred kill to lead 13-1. Charlotte had no answer as the final in set two was 25-14.
As FAU searched for their fourth sweep of the season, it looked too easy as FAU jumped all over the 49ers early 4-0. The lead stretched to eight for Florida Atlantic as Kayla Richardson had a kill of her own to extend the Owls lead 12-4. Charlotte fought to cut the lead to six at 22-16, but FAU’s great start carried the Owls over to a 25-16
Florida Atlantic had a 58.8 SO% and 61.6 Point Scored %. For a team coming off a tough loss against ECU, the Owls struck back in a powerful way. As a team, FAU had 52 kills with Katelynn Robine (pictured above, Angelina LaBelle) leading the team with her total of 14. Victoria Hensley had another pristine performance with her 42 assists helping the Owls total of 51. Brianna Anderson led Florida Atlantic with her digs total of ten, and Maggie Allred accumulated five blocks for the FAU’s total of 11.
The Owls (9-5) (1-1) close out their home stand against Memphis (7-7) (1-1) . The Tigers are coming off a sweep against UAB. The match is the last FAU home match until October 18. During that span FAU will play AAC rivals, Temple, Tulsa, and Wichita State. The match between FAU and Memphis starts at 6 P.M. on Friday, Oct. 4
