Owls Soar Past Braves: FAU Sweeps Bradley to Extend Winning Streak

The Bradley Braves (2-13) traveled down to Paradise to face off against Florida Atlantic. In the Owls final non-con series of the season, it was business as usual. FAU earned a series sweep and now has a seven-game winning streak.

Game One

FAU’s Trey Beard had another masterclass on Friday as he pitched six scoreless innings, allowed only three hits, and struck out nine. The Owls scoring opened when John Martinez scored off a wild pitch in the second. Later that inning, Jake Duer plated two thanks to an oppo-field single.

Florida Atlantic tacked on two more runs in the third after a John Schroeder two-run blast. Patrick Ward’s sac-fly was the final run of the evening as the bullpen held the Braves scoreless. The Owls won 6-0.

Game Two

After the squads traded runs in the first, FAU gained an advantage that held for the remainder of the game in the third. There John Schroeder knocked two in thanks to a base loaded single into left.

The scoring continued for Florida Atlantic for the remainder of the game as their 3-1 lead turned into a 10-1 advantage after back-to-back three run innings in the fifth and sixth inning.

After the eight, FAU led 14-1. Bradley put up three runs in the ninth, but a dominant day by the Owls secured the victory early. Florida Atlantic won 14-4.

Schroeder had Five RBIs while eight other Owls had an RBI each. Tyler Murphy earned the victory thanks to his quality start. Murphy pitched six innings, allowing only 1 run, and struck out seven.

Game Three

It was all FAU in the first two innings as the Owls owned a 9-0 lead going into the third. The third and fourth inning was owned by the Braves as Bradley cut the deficit from nine to only three. Then, with a 9-6 lead, FAU gained three runs in the fifth, and three runs in the seventh securing a 15-6 advantage. Bradley would plate one more in the ninth, as the Owls won 15-7.

Duer & Martinez led the way offensively with 3 RBIs and a double each. Following was another standout performance from Schroeder as he put up 2 RBIs and earned a double. Garcia secured two RBIs, and Ward, Leroux, and Slattery had an RBI each.

Series Notables

John Martinez has had a hot start to the 2025 season and his performance over the weekend is keeping the fire well kept for the redshirt freshman. Entering the weekend he was second only to Duer, but now is giving Duer a run for the team BA title. Martinez’s smash line: .692 BA/ .733 OBP/ 1.000 SLG. Martinez had four doubles and 4 RBIs.

John Schroeder has struggled for a good portion of the season thus far, but after his impressive outing this weekend, it seems the senior is well on his way for another great campaign. Over the weekend, Schroeder’s slash line was .615 BA/.643 OBP/ 1.154 SLG. The Florida native had two HR’s, a double, and led the Owls in RBIs with 9. He entered the weekend batting below .300

Brando Leroux made his only appearance on Sunday, but made the most of it as he earned four hits and an RBI. He has helped his BA reach an above .300 clip. Leroux’s break seems to have helped the senior as he now is batting above his career average of roughly .250.

Max Martzolf has put together a great start to the 2025 campaign, and his appearances in the Owls wins over Bradley did not disappoint. After a down year last season, the senior had 2.2 IP, allowed only two hits and had held the Braves to a .111 BA. It seems so far this year he is turning himself into the number one guy from the pen.

Look Ahead

Florida Atlantic (17-3) will host Miami (12-9) on Tuesday for the two school’s second matchup this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM in Boca Raton.
