NCAA Baseball Recap: Tulane Green Wave 8 – FAU Owls 3
Following their 5-0 shutout victory in game one, FAU looked to come out and win the series in game two against Tulane. After getting out in front early, Chandler Welch would recover to put together a solid start for Tulane, and the bats would follow to help secure the game two victory for the Green Wave.
FAU looked like the bats were catching fire early in the game. Despite going down 1-0 in the first, The Owls would come back in the second with three runs of their own. Carter Brady had a great day at the plate hitting a pair of doubles, one coming in the second to get the Owls on the board and tie the game at 1-1. Jalen DeBose would come up later in the second inning and deliver another double, this one scoring two more runs to give the Owls a 3-1 lead.
Chandler Welch found his groove on the mound after the second inning. A meeting at the mound seemed to get his composure back and he went on to throw 6.0 innings, giving up four hits, three runs, walking three, while striking out three in the process. Tyler Murphy would go 5.0 innings for the Owls, giving up six hits, and four runs with two of them being recorded as earned runs. Murphy walked none and struck out three as well.
Tulane looked to keep adding on to the score, and in the seventh inning did just that. Center fielder Teo Banks came up and took one deep over the left field wall to record his team leading ninth home run of the year, and extended the Green Wave lead to 5-3.
The Owls offense would attempt to stay in it through every frame. In the bottom half of the seventh, the Owls would have the bases loaded with two outs, but an infield fly-out would end the threat.
Steven Andrews would come in the game in an attempt to get FAU out of a jam with two runners in scoring position for the Green Wave. Colin Tuft came up and delivered a line drive down the right field line to give Tulane another pair of insurance runs and extend the lead to 7-3. Tuft would come around to score on the very next pitch, after Connor Rasmussen recorded an RBI single to give the Green Wave an 8-3 lead.
FAU would come up in the ninth following Tulane’s late rally and wouldn’t have much of an answer. John Schroeder would record a double, but the game would ultimately be dropped by a score of 8-3. FAU looks to win the rubber match tomorrow, and Tulane looks to take the series on the road. Trey Beard will be set to get the start for the Owls tomorrow.
