FAU vs Charlotte live updates and analysis

FAU returns home to host Charlotte in the second ever sandstorm game as the Owls look to pickup their second win of the season against Charlotte and 4th in a row overall. FAU has been firing on all cylinders over the past 3 games, while Charlotte picked up only their second win of AAC play during their last one and they have struggled overall.

We will update this thread with live updates as the game progresses.

1H first 4-

Both sides came out guns blazing offensively, as through the first few minutes as each side traded buckets through the first few possessions, with Charlotte getting a pair of triples from Nik Graves to jump out to an 8-4 lead with 18:23 to play. The Owls were ready to respond however, getting a pair of triples from Baba Miller and Ken Evans jr to even the game at 10 with 15:08 to play. The back and forth battle continued, however Charlotte grabbed a triple from Robert Braswell to give them a 15-12 lead with 13:36 to play heading into the U16 timeout.

U12 timeout-

That bucket from Braswell would be the last for nearly 3 minutes for Charlotte, as the Owls defense went to work and the offense came through, getting a pair of free throws from Miller and buckets from Nico Moretti and Kaleb Glenn and heading into the U12 timeout with 11:07 to play FAU was holding an 18-15 lead.

U8 timeout-

The 49ers snapped their cold-streak out of the U12 timeout, getting 7 consecutive points from Robert Braswell, however the Owls had an answer of their own in KyKy Tandy. Tandy responded to Braswell and the 49ers with 3 straight triples and heading into the U8 timeout, FAU was leading 27-24 with with 7:12 to play. Early on the Owls offense was flowing, getting assists on over 50% of their made baskets and 50% shooting from the field and 40% from 3, however Charlotte was 60% from the field and 50% from 3 and their hot start made this a close game.

U4 timeout-

Charlotte made 3 straight triples out of the U4 timeout, taking a 33-29 lead with 5:26 to play after a Kylan Blackmon triple, however once again the Owls were ready to respond. FAU went on a 9-0 run over the next few minutes, getting a step back triple from Baba Miller and a ferocious poster jam from Kaleb Glenn to set the Elly ablaze and give FAU a 38-33 lead heading into the U4 timeout with 3:31 to play.

Final 4-

The Owls went on an 8-4 run over the final few minutes, getting 5 from Nico Moretti and 3 from Kaleb Glenn and heading into halftime they were holding a 46-37 lead over Charlotte.

Halftime Thoughts-

FAU was able to grab a 9 point lead at the break thanks to an efficient offense which saw the Owls convert 53% of their field goals and 43% of their triples, but what really sealed the deal was their pestering defense. The Owls forced 11 49ers turnovers which translated to 13 points and although Charlotte was above 50% from the field and from 3 they fell behind due to poor ball control.

U16 2H timeout-

The Owls started the second half with an offensive burst, getting 5 from Kyky Tandy and another triple from Baba Miller and although their scoring halted after the 17:43 mark, Charlotte’s did too and heading into the U16 timeout with 15:31 to play FAU was holding a 54-41 lead over the 49ers.

U12 2H timeout-

Nik Graves scored a speedy bucket right at the rim out of the U12 timeout, however after that their offense went cold. FAU’s offense kept rolling however, getting 5 in a row from Matas Vokietaitis which forced Aaron Fearne into his first timeout of the half with 13:05 to play. Charlotte did get a 4-0 run out of the timeout, however Kaleb Glenn snapped that with a a pair of made free throws and heading into the U12 with 11:47 to play FAU was holding a 61-47 lead.

U8 2H timeout-

Tre Carroll scored 9 of the 11 points for FAU in between the U12 and U8 timeout for FAU, as he found success down low and in the paint. Although Charlotte was responding, they weren’t getting stops against FAU and heading into the U8 timeout with 8:03 to play, FAU was leading 72-55.

U4 2H timeout-

The Owls continued to build on their lead over the next few minutes, as Kyky Tandy hit his 5th triple of the game, while Kaleb Glenn scored 9 in between the U8 and U4 timeouts alone and heading into the U4 timeout FAU was holding a 85-67 lead with 3:46 play.

Final 4-

The Owls went quiet over the final few minutes, scoring only once, a bucket from Matas Vokietaitis down low and it allowed Charlotte to cut into the lead slightly, making it a somewhat respectable 87-75 final score.
