Recap: FAU 3 – Miami 0
FAU welcomed in Miami for the second time this season, following their series win at Memphis. The Owls pitching staff led the way to a 3-0 shutout victory over Miami. The Owls offense would put up some runs early, and give the pitching staff the confidence they needed to get the shutout win.
The Owls did a majority of their scoring in the third inning, where they scored two runs. Spencer Rich would get on base following being hit by a pitch, and would steal second to give sophomore Patrick Ward a shot to get an RBI with a runner in scoring position. Ward singled to score Rich, and make it a 1-0 game. John Schroeder would come to the plate following the RBI single, and delivered a near RBI triple before stumbling before third base, killing his speed and ultimately ending the inning at 2-0.
After the two run third inning, the game was entirely pitching and defense. Right-hander Brandon Smith put together an impressive start for FAU. Smith went 5.0 innings pitched, giving up three hits, zero runs, zero walks, and recording three strikeouts. Smith would get the win for the night, and the length of his outing took an incredible amount of weight off of the Owls pitching staff.
Steven Andrews and Sam Drumheller would come in for relief and put together solid outings of their own. The two combined for a final stat-line of 3.0 innings pitched, two hits, zero runs, zero walks, and three strikeouts. Danny Trehey kept his dominant season going, as he closed the final frame out for the Owls, striking out one and not letting up a hit or walk.
FAU would pick up an insurance run in the eighth, as Christian Adams would ground out, to score Carter Brady to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
FAU will host #12 ranked East Carolina this weekend. It’ll be the Owls biggest test since their opening series at Vanderbilt and they’ll look to keep playing as this cohesive unit. The Owls now have a three game winning streak, and two wins over the Hurricanes this season, as they head back into AAC conference play.
