The FAU Hockey Club D3 Owls followed up last night’s 16 goal outburst by netting another 16 goals in tonight’s come from behind victory over University of North Florida, and improving their record to 7-1 on the season.
UNF jumped out early and looked determined to reverse last night’s results when Owen Keyser opened up the scoring less than four minutes into the game giving UNF at early 1-0 lead. The lead would last a mere 82 seconds when Aaron Lentz found the back of the net to even up the score at 1-1.
Then, the flood gates opened. FAU would go on to score another two goals by Ayden Georgiano and Andrew Rothemich within 3 minutes to take a 3-1. North Florida’s John Bicho cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal at 10:26. That’s as close as UNF would get. The Owls went on to score another three goals in the final ten minutes of period one to take a 6-2 lead into the first intermission.
A little over a minute into the second FAU turned up the heat with another goal from Rothemich followed by goals from Nicholas Pecora, Christian Cuccia and two by Justin Gorelik. UNF would never get close again. FAU had a commanding 13-3 lead after two periods.
The Owls cruised through the final period with another three goals and ended the weekend series with a second straight 16 goal night.
FAU outscored UNF 32-4 in the two game series. – That’s got to be some kind of record – right??
FAU took 56 shots on net and UNF had 24.
The FAU Hockey Club D3 team is back this upcoming Friday night at Boca Ice to take on take on Florida Tech in a weekend home and home series,
FAU currently sits in 3rd place in College Hockey South D3 standings with 14 points. Florida Tech is 6th with 12 points.
