FAU Stays Alive With 10-8 Win Over Charlotte In AAC Tournament

By: Tobey Schulman

After breaking out for 18 hits in their second game of the AAC Baseball Championship, FAU would be matched up with Charlotte, looking to keep their season alive. With help from Jake Millan’s two home runs, the Owls were able to power past Charlotte, despite a late attempt at a comeback. FAU will now face Tulane again, and if they can win two games over the Green Wave, they’ll be playing in the AAC championship.

John Schroeder and Jake Millan would help give the Owls an early lead in the first couple of innings. Schroeder would give the Owls a 1-0 lead in the first with a solo home run. Millan would follow that up in the second and third innings with two moon-shot home runs of his own, one going 445 feet, and another almost hitting the freeway. This would give FAU a 5-1 lead through the first three innings.

The Owls would add another three runs in the fourth. Brando Leroux would score on a groundout from Jalen DeBose, John Schroeder would add another RBI with a single, and Christian Adams would lineout, scoring Daulton Frank to make the score 8-1. Charlotte would respond in the fifth with a four run frame after recording an RBI single and a three-RBI triple to cut the score to 8-5.

Daulton Frank would help the Owls in the sixth, with an RBI single that scored Spencer Rich to give the Owls a four run lead. A wild pitch would then allow Jalen DeBose to score, to give the Owls 10 runs, for the second game in a row.

Charlotte wouldn’t back down with the bats, and added three more runs off of a Kaden Hopson home run to cut the score to 10-8 in the seventh. Danny Trehey would come in for the Owls in the final two innings, and pitched two scoreless no-hit frames to secure the win for FAU.

FAU is set to play Tulane at 1:02 PM on Saturday, with another game later Saturday night if needed.Â
