Recap: FAU Owls 13 – Memphis Tigers 5

FAU entered game two of their conference series at Memphis looking to get their bats back on track and tie the series. The Owls bats would come alive early, and Memphis would never be able to catch up. Led by the long ball, the Owls took game two over the Tigers 13-5, to even up the series.

John Schroeder got the scoring started early for FAU in the first. He hit a solo home run to tally three more RBI’s and give the Owls a 3-0 lead. The long ball would keep working early for FAU. Andrew McKenna came up in the second inning to hit one out as well, making it a 5-0 game.

Memphis would strike back in their bottom half of the second. They would put up a five spot off of a two run home run from Jake Curtis and another pair of hits from the Tigers to tie the game up. This lead would be short-lived however, when Christian Adams would come up to the plate in the third.

He hit an RBI single that would score Jake Millan to make it an 8-5 game.

Memphis would threaten late in the game. They would load the bases in the seventh, but would ultimately come away with nothing.

In the eighth, Emilio Gonzalez would step up to the plate and give the Owls even more insurance with another two run home run. The fifth long ball on the day for the Owls, giving them a 10-5 lead. Spencer Rich added on to the lead, with another two run shot in the eighth, giving the Owls a 12-5 lead off of six home runs. The Owls wouldn’t be done, and Emilio Gonzalez came back up in the ninth to deliver his second home run of the game to give FAU a 13-5 lead.

FAU tied the single game home run record for the program with seven home runs. After a disappointing game one offensively, the Owls bats erupted throughout the entire game. FAU now looks to go for the series win Saturday, and improve their AAC conference play record to 4-2.
