FAU vs FIU March 8-11, 2024
FAU and FIU started their three game series this weekend on Friday. The Owls would take game one at FAU Baseball Stadium, and the Panthers would take game two at their field in Miami. The Owls will be back at their field in Boca Raton this Sunday, as they look to take their third consecutive series win.
C.J. Williams would put together yet another solid start for the Owls in game one. Williams went 5.2 innings pitched with three strikeouts, five hits, and one earned run allowed. Yet another start from Williams that emphasizes how important he is to this Owls rotation and team. Dominant reliever Danny Trehey would come in and toss 1.1 innings of shutout baseball. Braden Ostrander would also get in for relief, recording his first save of the season and going 2.0 innings pitched with no runs given up and two strikeouts.
On the offensive end, the Owls were able to put together some hits and score four to come away with the game one win. Highlighted by a John Schroeder home run and an Andrew McKenna multi-hit performance, the Owls did what they did best, and hit the ball hard in play to obtain the majority of their runs.
The Owls looked confident going into game two at FIU Baseball Stadium. The Owls opened up the first frame with a grand slam from John Schroeder. The Owls would take a commanding 4-0 lead in the top half of the first, but those would be the only runs the Owls would score in that game.
FIU’s pitching staff was dominant after that first inning. Relievers Orlando Hernandez and Ryan Cabarcas combined for six innings of work, four strikeouts, and only allowed two hits, and no runs after Owen Puk’s start.
The Owls come into Sunday’s game looking to take their third consecutive series victory at home. Tyler Murphy will get the start for the Owls, and looks to build more off of his 1-0 record. With a 2.00 ERA so far throughout the season, Murphy is exactly the guy that the Owls want for the game three rubber match.
