Game Recap: FAU Owls 14 – Memphis Tigers 3

FAU entered the rubber match against Memphis, attempting to obtain their second consecutive AAC series win to open up their conference schedule. The previous night the Owls launched seven home runs, tying the program single game record, to even up the series at one game a piece. The bats stayed hot for FAU, and while they fell behind early, the deficit would be erased to give FAU the series win.

Memphis got the scoring going early, a Daunte Stuart home run gave the Tigers an early 2-0 lead in the first. In the second however, FAU would strike back with a run of their own. Brando Leroux would hit an RBI single to left center to bring the Owls within a run. The Owls would tie the game up in the fourth, when Emilio Gonzalez stayed hot to deliver an RBI single.

The game would be broken open in the fifth when the Owls put up a six spot to make the score 8-2. Christian Adams would start the scoring off with his two RBI double that gave the Owls a 4-2 lead. Jake Millan and Carter Brady would also add to the lead with home runs of their own. Millan’s being a three run home run, and Brady’s being a solo shot.

Memphis would try to get some momentum back late in the game. In the bottom half of the sixth, Jacob Compton would hit an RBI single, scoring Daunte Stuart, and cutting the score to 8-3. That was all that would come of the sixth, and Andrew McKenna would put a stop to any momentum the Tigers had remaining.

He came up in the seventh and hit a single to score Brando Leroux, and make it a 9-3 game. Christian Adams would come back up again and get another RBI single to pad the Owls lead to 10-3. Carter Brady wrapped up an amazing day at the plate in the ninth, recording his third hit of the day, and his third RBI. The Owls’ day would be capped off at 14 runs, taking game three 14-3.

Trey Beard was the savior for the Owls today on the mound. He came in to relieve Nicholas Del Prado and put together a 4.2 innings pitched performance, giving up two hits, one run, and walking three while striking out six. Danny Trehey was yet again solid, going 3.1 innings, giving up no runs, and striking out four.

After a rough start on the mound for FAU, the bats and bullpen recovered to take the final game of the series. Emilio Gonzalez, Christian Adams, and Andrew McKenna continue to produce for this offense, and the Owls totaled ten home runs across the last two games of this series. FAU will now travel back down to Boca Raton where they’ll get ready for a Tuesday night matchup against Miami.
