Recap: Memphis Tigers 2 – FAU Owls 1

FAU opened up their series at Memphis after dropping the final game of their AAC opening series against Charlotte. The Owls looked to improve their 2-1 AAC record, and Memphis looked to improve their 1-2 AAC record. The Owls would threaten with the bats throughout the game, but would ultimately get beat by the Tigers 2-1.

C.J. Williams got the start for the Owls in game one. Williams has been one of the most valuable players on this Owls team, and had a 4-0 record coming into this start. Williams would go six innings, and only give up two hits. However he struggled with his control, walking five batters. Pierre Seals was able to hit a solo home run, and Brennan DuBose would record a double to score the winning second run for Memphis, and deliver Williams his first loss of the season.

While Williams didn’t have his best outing, Sam Drumheller came in and threw two shutout innings to give the Owls a chance late in the game. Unfortunately, the Owls bats just couldn’t get a break, and couldn’t tack on that one run to tie it up or win the game.

Andrew McKenna would be responsible for the only run from the Owls offense in game one. He hit a solo home run, his first with FAU. Jake Millan would record another hit, as he continues to be a hot bat in the Owls lineup. The Owls wouldn’t do much until the eighth inning, where they had the bases loaded. FAU had exactly who they wanted up at the plate: John Schroeder. Schroeder would end up hitting the ball hard to center field, but would be caught for an out, leaving three runners on. An unlucky break for the Owls, but that’s just baseball

The Owls look to get one back tomorrow. Tyler Murphy will look to get them back on track, and improve his 1.80 ERA. The offense will look to continue to hit the ball hard, as long as they can keep that up the ball is sure to find gaps in the field. Memphis comes into the game looking for the series win, and a chance to get their record back to .500 at 15-15 on Saturday.
