UTSA Run-Rules FAU 14-1 In Dominant Game One Victory

By: Tobey Schulman

FAU welcomed in the UTSA Roadrunners for a three game set this weekend to cap off the regular season schedule. The Roadrunners were dominant from the start, taking a commanding lead right from the jump, and putting the game out of reach early. FAU’s offense struggled to plate runs and keep the Roadrunners off the board in each inning. They’ll look to bounce back after being run-ruled for the second consecutive game.

FAU entered the game with their go-to guy on the mound in C.J. Williams. The Roadrunner bats would immediately get to Williams, who although was looking to bounce back, never was quite able to do so. UTSA would break the score wide open with a five-spot in the first to take a 5-0 lead. The Roadrunner bats would plate three more runs during Williams’ start, giving him a final stat-line of 4.0 innings pitched, while giving up four earned runs, nine hits, and walking three.

While UTSA may not be known for the long-ball they certainly used it in game one against FAU. Alexander Olivo would hit two home runs and Zane Spinn would record another home run in the fifth. Other than that it was the single that killed FAU, as UTSA managed to keep putting the ball in play to plate a large majority of their runs.

UTSA would go on to score 14 runs in the game to put the run-rule in effect in the seventh. FAU put together one run off of Jalen DeBose leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. With this loss, FAU’s record now is under .500 sitting at 25-26. They now look to bounce back with Trey Beard on the mound tomorrow where Senior Night festivities will take place before the game.
