FAU football made 2 under the radar moves Thursday afternoon, promoting 2 of their staff members, as Ryan Beer was promoted to Director of Player personnel, replacing Jeff Love who was promoted to executive director of player personnel and general manager.
Beer, 21, recently graduated from FAU with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management and will be taking over a role which is in charge of bringing talent to his Alma Mater and is the youngest person in the country taking on that role. Beer joined the Owls as a Personnel intern in April of 2021 and has been a fast riser, earning the trust of the Herman regime quickly, being promoted to scouting director early in the Herman era and has been rising ever since.
Rather than let Beer explore new opportunities and potentially bring his home-grown recruiting talents elsewhere, Herman & Co. make the decision to invest in someone who has called paradise home for the past 4 years, and will have a unique insight into FAU as a whole, which has the potential to benefit him in the recruiting department.
Beer’s promotion is concrete evidence that the FAU intern position for students has the potential to turn into a career, as Beer has made his impact in a variety of roles with the FAU football program over the past few years and has now put himself in a position to do it for years to come.
Love, who Beer replaces also received a promotion, as the Owls newest executive director of player personnel & general manager persevered through a tumultuous tenure at Kansas, and 3 years coaching at the high school to now oversee all talent headed to paradise.
Love has worked his way through the Coaching ranks, starting in a similar role to Beer, as an undergraduate video intern at UCF in 2001. From there Love improved video departments across the country, starting at Nevada-Reno, then to Kansas for the first time, next to Occidental College where his 29-man recruit class in 2011 had a combined 27 ACT score. After that he headed to Houston Baptist, helping create the foundation in year 1 of the program, and finally to Kansas, where he worked his way up from Director of football technology to Quarterbacks Coach.
After being accused of NCAA violations at Kansas, Love jumped into the HS football ranks, spending a year as the assistant Head Coach at Santa Margarita HS in California, developing 3 star QB Colt Fulton. Next he burst on the Florida High School scene, serving as the Head Coach of Oasis HS in Cape Coral FL and next as the Associate HC & Offensive Coordinator at Riverdale HS in Ft. Myers.
Love was eventually cleared of all accusations while at Kansas, and before heading to FAU in 2023, he returned to the college coaching ranks at NAIA University of the Cumberlands in 2022, serving as the Tight Ends & RB Coach and the recruiting coordinator.
The general manager position is a jack of all trade’s role in the recruiting world and is a position that we see popping up on many college staffs in a variety of sports, as the transfer portal has made it a necessity to have someone in charge of acquiring new talent from all levels of football, not just the long-term scouting process of high school talent.
The experience that Love gathered across the country at multiple levels of football, is invaluable insight to have when pursuing talent that comes from a variety of places, a majority of which he is familiar with, or at least knowledgeable of.
Sometimes the best gets are the ones you already have, and for FAU they recognize 2 talents in Love and Beer that have been making a substantial impact on their program and reward them with a role that will enable them to continue to do good, now on a larger scale.
