Boxer Ryan Garcia received a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission after testing positive for the PED ostarine, multiple media outlets reported on Thursday.
Garcia’s decision victory over Devin Haney on April 20 in Brooklyn has been declared a no contest, while Garcia will forfeit his $1.1 million purse and be fined $10,000 by the commission – the maximum allowed in New York.
The decision means Haney is again undefeated at 31-0. Garcia is 24-1.
Both boxers are 25 years old.
“I want to thank the commission and the fans who stood by me during this whole process,” Haney told ESPN on Thursday. “The facts are the facts and I wasn’t on an even playing field. Happy I was able to receive justice for what happened. It’s all part of my story and it’s only going to make me better. I look to enjoy this time with my family and friends and see what’s next.”
Garcia posted on social media on Thursday that “they took my victory away” and added “It’s okay I’m retired I’ll come back ina year,” in reference to him posting on Wednesday that he was retiring from boxing.
Veteran boxing reporter Dan Rafael first reported Garcia’s suspension.
