Not only does Luis Nery believe that he can beat Naoya Inoue, but he thinks that he might be the one man who can. Nery and Inoue are expected to share the ring in just a month from now when they compete in Japan. Both fighters have more than enough experience, and it’s sure to be a bout that brings excitement.

Luis Nery And Naoya Inoue Are Accomplished Fighters

Nery has worked himself to a record of 35-1-0 with 27 knockouts included. Nery has had an odd history when it comes to competing in the Asian nation. He became the WBC super-flyweight champion over there, but later failed a drug test and had the title ripped away from him. His talent shows in his ability to consistently pick up victories, though a small hiccup or two outside of the ring has held him back.

Inoue on the other hand is undefeated in his professional boxing career. With a record of 26-0-0, 23 of them being knockouts, Inoue is known as one of the most dominant fighters around. He’s also the second male boxer in history to become the undisputed world champion in not one, but TWO divisions. He’s a world champion in both light-flyweight and super-flyweight, while also dominating in bantamweight. His last fight was a win against Marlon Tapales in December 2023 at the super-bantamweight division to become undisputed. The fight against Nery will be his first defense.

Nery’s Confidence Is Through The Roof

When Nery spoke with the media, he displayed an abundance of confidence about his abilities, on top of seemingly finding a “weakness” in Inoue’s game. Nery said, “I’ve been wanting to fight him for about three years now. Fortunately, the opportunity has come, and we are taking it seriously. He is an elite fighter. He’s among the best fighters. He is fast. He is strong. But he has weaknesses, and he does take some punches.” You’d have to look quite hard for his alleged weaknesses though, as Inoue has dominated for the majority of his career.

Nery went one step further, saying, “I’m the only one who can beat Inoue because I have good power, I can take punches, I have heart, and I’m willing to die in the ring.” He later continued by mentioning that Inoue shouldn’t have even taken the fight in the first place due to him having a lot to lose, while Nery himself has everything to gain. Of course, this interview didn’t just end with these words, Nery walked away saying, “I will win by knockout. There’s no other way. I know that either he or I will be stopped. But I’m sure that he will be stopped.”
