Keith Thurman Unable To Fight Against Tim Tszyu

Keith Thurman was originally set to box against Tim Tszyu in the first ever pay-per-view event with Prime Video. The two of them have already had their press conference, and this March 30th competition had been set in stone for some time. Unfortunately, Thurman had to drop out.

It was posted to social media that Thurman had suffered an injury that was severe enough to warrant a doctor’s visit. It didn’t matter what the injury was (though it was mentioned to be a bicep injury), the fight was already in doubt at this point. One source from this report said, “how many times have you seen a fighter go to the doctor 12 days before a fight for an injury and the fight go through? It doesn’t look good.”

Fundora To Replace Keith Thurman

It didn’t take much longer for him to be replaced in the fight. It’s reported that Sebastian Fundora will be replacing Thurman in this competition. Fundora has openly stated in the past that he’d want to take on Tim Tszyu if given the opportunity. Instead of having to wait for that chance, he gets to jump on right now. Luckily for him, Fundora was already going to be fighting on March 30th, with him set to go against Serhii Bohachuk on the undercard. Now he moves up to fight for the WBO title against Tszyu.

When asked about the thought process behind taking on Fundora instead of Thurman, Tszyu was quick to answer. He said, “There was no hesitation, it was straight away, a 10-second thing.” He later continued by saying that Thurman dropping out of the fight got him “pissed off” but that he’s well aware of how the show keeps moving forward regardless. He mentioned that Fundora’s height will be a point of interest for him in the time leading up to the bout, although he’s still verry confident in himself heading into this new competition.
