Since last Friday, the WNBA has received an abnormal amount of coverage by the press & social media. Bleacher Brothers Network has been no different. The extra media attention has been specific to one player; Brittney Griner.
America isn’t for Brittney Griner. She just lived there, benefited from American society, and was able to professionally play basketball. America was the land of slavery, intolerance, and historical systematic racism & prejudice.

This was the quote from WNBA star Brittney Griner after participating in the national anthem following her first game back since her lengthy & well-documented absence from the women’s basketball league.
Back in July 2020, Brittney Griner told The Republic’s Jeff Metcalfe in an interview, “I’m going to protest regardless. I’m not going to be out there for the national anthem. If the league continues to want to play it, that’s fine. It will be all season long I’ll not be out there. I feel like more are going to probably do the same thing. I can only speak for myself.”
