Even with the new NFL season on the horizon, there are still plenty of other sports leagues that are garnering for attention. There are even some that are trying their hardest to turn a loss to a win. And then there’s the migraine headache known as Sage Steele.
Tom Herman amassed a 54-22 regular season record (Ironically, a .711 win percentage) which included a Sugar Bowl win as head coach at Texas as well as a 5-1 (.833 win percentage) bowl record with the only loss of his postseason career came in the form of a 34-10 loss to San Diego State in 2016.
To say the least, this ish is truly going to have some nuts in it. After a wild trade deadline in MLB that saw Justin Verlander, Jack Flaherty and Max Scherzer find new homes, the biggest shakeup transpired in the last 48 hours with another round of chaos on the horizon this weekend. There is a lot of hype surrounding the Nittany Lions this upcoming season. While the team is not looking too far into the future, there are a lot of beat writers and students around Penn State that are thinking that this could be the year that PSU could be aiming higher than recent memory.
The FAU Owls can easily be a 10-win team this season under Herman. I see Thompson utilizing his arms and his legs to help the team get to bowl eligibility. But let’s make this clear: I don’t blow smoke. Depending on how this team does against two main non-conference opponents, that being Clemson and Illinois, will determine how good the team itself can and will be this season.
In 2022, Georgia reloaded on both sides of the ball after surviving the shootout with Alabama in the 2021 National Championship Game. What resulted was a straight beatdown of the young upstarts from TCU in the 2022 National Championship Game. Now the question is this: Does 2023 truly become ‘The Year of the Bulldog?”
While all the hype will be focused on the Power Five Conferences, the non-power five are scratching, clawing and grinding for the opportunity to get some respect of their own. There are other conferences that are looking to shake up the foundation of College Football Playoff picture right out of the gate.
