Happy Sunday everyone for the Sunday edition of Quills Picks Winners as we head back east to Aqueduct as our race today will be the Memories of Silver Stakes, which is a one-mile race on the Aqueduct inner turf course. They have two courses there inside the main track if you never knew. These three-year-old fillies will head to the gate at approximately 4:04 pm Eastern time, and if you want to watch the race live, it will be broadcast live on FS2.
Unbeknownst to me, the fields for the Kentucky Oaks and Derby were announced on Saturday. We have a full field of 14 with two also eligibles entered for Friday’s Kentucky Oaks, while we have a full field of 20 horses and two also eligibles in the Kentucky Derby for the first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs.
We first took a look at the Royal Heroine, which is a Grade 3 race going one mile on the turf at The Great Race Place. The 8 Stay and Scam (5/2 morning line favorite) goes for the lead here. I think she is a sprint horse but the DRF handicapper thinks second time going a mile will benefit her.
Today is closing day for the Keeneland April meet, and their featured race on their final card of the meet is the Grade 3 Bewitch Stakes, which goes a mile and a half on the turf course for older fillies and mares. Post time is set for approximately 4:07 pm Eastern time.
