We reach the point on the trail to the Kentucky Derby where the races mean more and also are worth more points. If the NCAA did not copyright or trademark “March Madness”, this weekend’s races could fall under that moniker. Let’s leap over to Gulfstream Park for Leap Day today as nine three-year-old maidens will go seven and a half furlongs on the turf course. Post time for this race is approximately 4:36 pm Eastern time.
We head south to Tampa Bay Downs for the Wednesday Quills Picks Winners, and today’s race is a mile and a sixteenth turf race for three-year-olds. From what I can tell the weather will be fine for this fairly early race which goes off at approximately 2:30 pm Eastern time.
We stay at Parx for Tuesday’s Quills Picks Winners race as we have older horses are going six and a half furlongs. This is a starter allowance $25,000, which means that if your horse was entered in a claiming race of $25k or less over a certain period of time, your horse is eligible. That’s the main condition in today’s race. There are other conditions added to this race, which some tracks do to make sure they get enough entries in a race.
Happy Monday everyone, and you know that if it is Monday, at least for this time of the year, we are taking a trip to my home track Parx Racing as we will look at the sixth race on the card. Today’s race is a $5000 level claimer (bottom at Parx) for older horses going six and a half furlongs.
We head to Santa Anita for Sunday’s Quills Picks Winners race for the ninth race on their 10 race card which is the Wishing Well Stakes for older fillies and mares going six and a half furlongs down the hill. The eleven horses entered will head up the hill to the gate at approximately 7:30 pm Eastern time.
I hinted in yesterday’s article that today’s article would be for the races at Oaklawn Park, and in fact, that is the case today as I will look at their three graded stakes on the card today, the Honeybee which is a Grade 3 race for three-year old fillies
We stay at Gulfstream Park for Friday’s sixth race of the day which will be the subject of today’s Quills Picks Winners.We have 11 three year old maiden fillies going five furlongs on the turf course.
