They have two courses there inside the main track if you never knew. Unbeknownst to me, the fields for the Kentucky Oaks and Derby were announced on Saturday. We have a full field of 14 with two also eligibles entered for Friday’s Kentucky Oaks, while we have a full field of 20 horses and two also eligibles in the Kentucky Derby for the first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs.
We first took a look at the Royal Heroine, which is a Grade 3 race going one mile on the turf at The Great Race Place. The 8 Stay and Scam (5/2 morning line favorite) goes for the lead here. I think she is a sprint horse but the DRF handicapper thinks second time going a mile will benefit her.
Today is closing day for the Keeneland April meet, and their featured race on their final card of the meet is the Grade 3 Bewitch Stakes, which goes a mile and a half on the turf course for older fillies and mares. Post time is set for approximately 4:07 pm Eastern time.
