For this Horse Racing 101 course here at Bleacher Brothers University, we will go through the wagering options in a typical race. Since Saturday is the Kentucky Derby, what bettor way (pun intended) than to look at what is offered for the Run for the Roses.
Here’s the last 4 fillies that are entered in the Kentucky Oaks. Note that the 15 and 16 are also eligibles and need a filly or two to scratch out to run. As of Tuesday night, it looks like none of the main body of the field have scratched out.
We will look at the third set of four fillies who will be running in the Kentucky Oaks on Friday afternoon at Churchill Downs
Let’s head up to Aqueduct for an early race as we will look at the third race, which is the Affirmed Success which is a race for New York bred older horses going six furlongs on the main track. There’s only five horses entered but it should be interesting nonetheless. Post time is an early one at 2:05 pm Eastern time.
For the second year in a row, the morning line favorite in the Kentucky Derby comes from the stable of Mike Repole. This time, Repole is counting on his prized colt, Fierceness, to not just make it to the starting gate but deliver the long-time owner his first victory.

We have reached the rite of passage where the three-year-old fillies run under the Twin Spires in the Kentucky Oaks, and I thought I would give some initial thoughts on the fillies entered.
We head to Tampa Bay Downs for the final time for their meet as we will look at their seventh race on their card which is a five furlong turf sprint for older horses. Post time is projected for 3:33 pm Eastern time.
We close a successful month of April, at least with win wagers, as we look at the Daily Racing Form’s favorite race on Mondays and Tuesdays, the sixth race at Parx. Today’s edition is a $5000 claiming race for fillies and mares going five and a half furlongs on the main track. The ten fillies and mares head to the gate at approximately 2:59 pm Eastern time.
