Josh Berry Shocks the Field with Thrilling Las Vegas Victory

NASCAR on an Intermediate 1.5 mile track is the best combination out there. Las Vegas always creates some exciting action, but today’s race was odd. That’s most likely the biggest factor as to why Josh Berry and Wood Brothers Racing gained the win out in Sin City.

The major storyline of Christopher Bell finally ends at three-in-a-row. NASCAR must wait for another four-in-a-row winner. With how the Gen-7 car has been it may take another while for anyone to reach the level the 20 team was at.

Berry’s win is one of the more popular wins the sport could have as he was not a favorite coming into the weekend, but sure left his mark on the weekend. It is Berry’s first career win, and Wood Brothers first win on a 1.5 mile intermediate track since 1993.

Stage Winners and Xfinity Fastest Lap

Austin Cindric won stage one while Kyle Larson earned the stage two victory. Tyler Reddick earned the Xfinity fastest lap bonus point on lap 202.

Notable Storylines

Wood Brothers and Josh Berry

The win gives the Wood Brothers their second-straight year into the playoffs. It also is the teams first time in over 40 years in which they have a win in back-to-back seasons. It took Berry 53 career starts to earn the victory, and with the Cup Series career he has had, he definitely deserves it. Remember, his first starts came as a fill in driver for Chase Elliott. When the Tennessee native finally made his first full-time start it was with a team that announced they were shutting down.

Toyota Struggles

With under 30 laps to go the race seemed to be a fuel mileage race. Once the caution came out for Gragson, the event was flipped. While that may be a valid reason, it is still shocking to not see a Toyota in the top-ten. JGR and 23XI have both done well on 1.5 Mile intermediates. The results from today are not necessarily a shock, just an outlier of a day for the manufacturer.

RFK Racing

Every season it seems the team earns momentum, and 2025 is no different. All three RFK Fords finished inside the top 15 with Ryan Preece earning a third place finish. While Chris Buescher has been the notable driver for the team, seeing Keselowski and Preece put up great results adds more steam to the Roush-Fenway Keselowski owned team.

Trackhouse Racing

While Shane Van Gisbergen struggled, Ross Chastain and Daniel Suárez put together some great runs. Chastain, who had the best average finish in the next-gen at Las Vegas entering the weekend had a fifth place finish. Suárez though finished second. On the final restart, the 99 team had a great shot at the win, but did not have enough to outrun the 21 of Berry.
